First Steps
Call us 24hrs on 020 8819 3465 for advice on your choices and what to do next there are procedures to follow. Please choose from the guide below for your particular circumstances.

Expected Death at home
When an expected death occurs at home the doctor should be called to pronounce the person deceased. The doctor will issue a notice of death which can then be presented to the town hall to get the death certificate. How ever if the death occurs during the night or at the weekend it maybe that a Locum doctor comes out to visit you. They will issue a tempory notice of death and the official one can be collected from the doctor the following working day

Unexpected Death
If the death is unexpected, accidental or the doctor has not seen the deceased for over fourteen days then the death should then be reported to the coroner. This can be done by calling the police on 101. Most likely a post mortem will take place and the coroner will notify you when you can register the death at the local town hall.

Death at Hospital
If the death occurs at the hospital the bereavement office will notify you when you can collect the death notice so you can collect it and then register the death at the local town hall.

Registering the Death
Registering the death is most probably the last thing you will want to do at this time but the death should be registered within five days.
